The fall of communism in Eastern Europe happened twenty-five years ago, and it seems like a vestige of some bygone era. But some institutions in former Soviet republics and other countries in the region still feel the effects of that tremendous change.
That notion spurred the creation of a pair of special issues of the journal
Library Trends in Volume 63
. Guest edited by
Hermina G.B. Anghelescu, the articles in the issues took a comprehensive look at the difficulties faced by libraries after the Berlin Wall came down.
Articles from librarians in around two dozen countries were spread across the
Fall 2014 and
Spring 2015 issues. Anghelescu joined us for a two-part podcast on the special topic. Part 1 focuses on the challenges in putting together such an ambitious journal project. Part 2 talks about the challenges libraries have faced over the past quarter of a century.
