Squad Goals: A World Cup Reading List

Squad Goals - The Beautiful Game in Hopkins Press Journals: A Reading List

With the 2026 World Cup underway, we revisited the recent special issue of Social Research: An International Quarterly devoted to "Football Politics", looking at myriad intersections of politics and soccer — and as we explored further, discovered that many of our journals had something to say about The Beautiful Game.

Whether you call it soccer, footy, or association football, we've collected a journal-spanning list of readings for your enjoyment between matches. We've made all articles available to read free at Project MUSE through 20 July 2026, the day after the World Cup finale.
