The Hopkins Review is a quarterly review of literature and culture. It publishes fiction, poetry, and memoir; essays on literature, drama, film, the visual arts, music, and dance; interviews, folios of visual art, and translations; as well as reviews of books, performances, and exhibits. General submissions are open throughout the month of October each year; submissions to the journal’s new literary prizes, the Stephen Dixon Fiction Prize (for JHU students and alumni) and the Anne Frydman Translation Prize (for emerging and early-career translators), are open throughout the month of April.
For submission information, go to: hopkinsreview.com
The Hopkins Press Journals Ethics and Malpractice Statement can be found at the ethics-and-malpractice page.
The Hopkins Review accepts unsolicited submissions of original work from October 1 to October 31. “Original work” may include fiction (short stories, novel excerpts), poetry, non-fiction (creative non-fiction, memoir, arts and literary criticism, and public-facing scholarship), translations (poetry and fiction), and reviews (timely reviews of recently published books). Simultaneous submissions are allowed.
All submissions are reviewed by a reader from our pool of assistant editors and editorial assistants. The highest-ranked submissions are passed up to the editor for acceptance or rejection. The editors try to respond to submissions within six months.
Unless directly solicited by the editorial staff, all submissions are read through Submittable (thehopkinsreview.submittable.com/submit). All submissions should carry the authors’ identifying information.
