In its quest to advance open access (OA), Project MUSE has announced that their Subscribe to Open (S2O) initiative reached its 2025 sustainability goal, providing public open access to the contents of more than 100 journals this year — including 43 journals published by Hopkins Press.
The full roster of the journals published by Hopkins Press participating in S2O follows below. For this volume year, all issues of the participating journals will be available open access. Back catalog articles will remain available to those with active Project MUSE subscriptions.
The participating journals represent the full spectrum of subject areas that comprise our catalog, including the humanities, history, classics, Asian studies, religious studies, society & government, and science & technology. Their participation in S2O reflects a collective commitment to ensuring that vital humanities and social sciences scholarship is accessible to everyone, free from paywalls.
Project MUSE and the Hopkins Press Journals team extends our deepest gratitude to the global community of publishers, libraries and the S2O Community of Practice who collectively made this possible. Their shared vision and support have helped realize a path forward for open access in disciplines that are often underserved by other OA funding models.
Throughout 2025, we will celebrate our participating journals and partners in this endeavor. Together, we celebrate this success and look forward to continuing to build a future where scholarship is open and accessible to the world’s citizens.
